Let me argue on this problem from a very different point of view, sort of "the other way around":
The problem with this suggestion is that the long range shooting just doesn't ever happen in this game with these map.
The distances are WAY to short for sniper rifles!!!
For real sniping we're talking hundreds and hundreds of yards out instead of shooting across a football field or two.
This game has NO maps for sniping at all.
The 12x scopes in this game are practically already zooming in too close actually for the maps in this game. The magnification isn't necessary to aim precisely and reduces the field of vision too much for the maps here to be of much use. Their magnification is already nearly unless a player either has rather poor vision or a very tiny screen!
Now in this game as well as in all other shooters the distances are of course somewhat scaled down to make the game fun and the guns easy enough to use.
So as I stated, what I'm arguing is the other way around from what you're arguing, ltLeonard.
I love sniper rifles and DMR rifles, but for them to be enjoyable they need to have a use in this game and have an advantage at the few spots where one can shoot at someone from relatively far away (which as I said is still not really far).
So if sniper rifles don't get to shoot as fast as assault rifles and the maximum distances that one can shoot from in these maps are WELL within an AR's effective maximum range, then these assault rifles and handguns need to have their effective ranges adjusted to shorter ranges as well. Otherwise full auto guns would vastly overpower long range guns. And a whole bunch of guns in the game would get to be total bonkers and underpowered.
And now that problem is exactly where the whole dilemma originates from! A dilemma ALL FPS games share:
Some people just happen to love hand guns, others love shotguns, some love AR's, some love Sniper rifles, and ALL these different players naturally want their favorite gun to be the best in the game - or at least to be very effective and very competitive with all others!
But this game as well as all the other FPS alternatives are anything but realistic!
Not even the hardcore modes, if the games offer them are anywhere close to being realistic!
What they all are instead is simply just more or less fun and competitive "pixel-shooters" where everyone can find a good gun that suits their play style!
- Nothing more nothing less!
And often that good or best in game is not necessarily the same one as the real life favorite.
If you really want to remove DMR rifles and move them into the sniper category just so your personal favorite MR39 can be more powerful and more competitive, then the next guy to start complaining is someone who loves a specific DMR, or someone who complains that his desert eagle doesn't shoot far enough, or a guy who complains about the alligator skin on a historic MG3 or....
Well you get the idea.... to keep it short:
Live with it!
It's not a simulation!
It's merely a fast paced arcade style pixel shooter and be happy that your favorite gun is competitive.
And either learn to adjust your gameplay accordingly or look for more suitable alternative pixel-guns that you're more successful with and be happy that your favorite gun is a viable alternative.
The only real and actual problem this game does have in terms of guns, is that certain Sniper rifles are being one shot kill weapons in close range combat and still have a firing rate high which is sufficiently high enough to go on a close quarter combat kill streak with them! That makes Sniper rifles superior at larger distances - and in the hands of a skilled players (with good hardware and low ping times) a highly competitive if not superior weapon for close quarter combat as well. That is a real problem in this game. But also a problem other popular games share in some form or another as well.
I personally would recommend three different approaches:
a.) Slightly reduce the damage of sniper rifles to a point where only headshots are one shot kills.
b.) make the scoped view of the gun shake somewhat whenever the player walks to encourage or even force people to stand still while aiming.
c.) Make those highest damage and low firing rate (single short kill) sniper rifles really reload (manually) after each and thereby completely loose the aim after each a shot by moving it rather randomly but considerably away from where the last shot was (similar to recoil). And with that make it go out of zoom, to force the shooter to aim all new.
And just keep faster shooting semi automatic "marksman" or "sniper" rifles the way they are now, being 2 or three shot kills and as such be superior to AR's and SMG's and LMG's at longer ranges yet have the disadvantages they do in close quarter and "medium" range combat to those.
everything you said is a pretty useless counter that states facts that are completely irrelevant to my "feedback" im just saying to turn the m39 and hk into another svd and psg1 because the former are inferior in that category. This has nothing to do with game mechanics of snipers, I find it annoying that it requires much more effort to use than say the cfx50 or the msbs. I can easily get kills with those weapons as compared to the m39
